The Power of an Hour, Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded in 2011 by Ben Wallace in Omaha, NE. The concept for the organization grew out of the question, “What do you think would happen if everyone in a community took just one hour out of their lives once a month or even once a year above and beyond what they are doing now, and were able to focus it on something that would genuinely make their community a better place?” Out of that single question a conversation began that inspired a movement whose mission is “Facilitating Stronger Communities through More Effective Volunteering.” That mission is focused on simplifying the ability for volunteers to engage in meaningful service with nonprofit organizations in their local communities and across the nation.

Our organization is unique in the way that we are working to achieve our mission, not in the mission itself. We are spearheading a Volunteer Revolution to help change the way we define volunteering and how we engage to make the world a better place. We want to provide web tools that allow citizens in a community to find meaningful volunteer opportunities that allow them to do the things they love to do in ways that create passion, innovation, and civic entrepreneurship. We want to help revolutionize the ways that nonprofit organizations reach out to their communities and provide the tools that they need to connect with their volunteers in new and innovative ways.
